How Much Does a Mitzvah Really Cost?

How Much Does a Mitzvah Really Cost?

This is the number one question I get asked:
“How much does a mitzvah cost?”
Or sometimes, “Can I afford everything I want for the budget I have?”

If you’re planning a mitzvah, chances are you’ve already had the conversation with other parents.
You know how it goes:
“Hey, how much did your mitzvah cost?”
“Ours is coming up, and we’re trying to plan.”

Then you come to me saying, “Well, they said theirs cost this much, so we want to keep ours around the same or less.”

And that’s when I say, hold it right there.
Why are we planning your mitzvah based on their budget and goals?

Step One: Discover What Matters Most

The very first thing I do with every family is schedule a Discovery Call.
This is where we talk about your goals, your vision, your priorities — and yes, your budget.

I have spreadsheets and hundreds of mitzvah budgets from past events to reference, but honestly, those numbers don’t mean much until I know what you and your family truly want.

Because your mitzvah is not just another party, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of your child and your family’s traditions.

So… How Much Does a Mitzvah Cost?

Well, that’s where I come in.

Once we’ve had our discovery call and I understand your goals, I’ll ask how much you want to spend.

And in that moment, my planner brain kicks into high gear — because I know exactly what kind of mitzvah experience you can create within that number.

Yes, you can absolutely throw a beautiful backyard mitzvah for under $10,000 with 100 guests.
And yes, you can host a $100,000 blowout at the Four Seasons for 500 people.

But your mitzvah’s cost depends entirely on your answers to a few key questions.

My 3 Tips for Determining Your Mitzvah Budget

  1. Decide how much you truly want to spend.
You know your financial comfort zone — what you have saved, what you’re willing to allocate, and what would cause unnecessary stress. Don’t take out a second mortgage. Let’s work together to create something amazing within your means.

  2. Find out early who’s contributing.
Don’t be afraid to ask upfront if family members want to help. Having those conversations early keeps everyone on the same page and prevents awkward surprises later.

  3. Identify the guest of honor’s top priorities.
What’s most important to them, the entertainment, the food, the activities, or the décor? Knowing this early helps you make smart spending decisions and ensures the event feels uniquely them.
